In the new Star Trek movie a team 'sky dive' from the space boundry into the atmosphere. is this possible?

a more accurate term would most likely be HALO jump, i know HALO jumping is from a height of 11000m which i nowhere near space. In the movie, a team of 3, including Kirk, skydive through the atmospheric boundry into the planet Vulcan, therefore as the planet is not earth you could ume the atmosphere may be thinner ect. i was wondering then, could a human on earth possibly 'sky dive' from the boundry of space, where gravity is felt, through the atmospheric boundry into earth atmosphere? thankyou
