Egg Crate Pad vs Quilted Mattress Pad?

I'm an incoming Freshman (into college) and in the dorm "starter" kits, they supply one egg crate pad and one quilted mattress pad for your bed. I know you can't use both (or can you?) so which one is better for quality sleep? Any recommendations?
